“Dozens of Senior Doctors Warn Against Consequences of Legal Revolution”
In a statement released today, dozens of senior doctors in Israel have expressed concerns regarding the ongoing legal revolution promoted by the government. Eliminating reasonableness in medical care may lead to arbitrary and unreasonable decisions, conflicts of interest, and ultimately harm the quality of medical care and management.”
According to the doctors, “humane and ethical medicine is committed to the strict protection of human rights, dignity, and health, regardless of sector, gender, age, or socio-economic status.” They emphasize their dedication to principles such as justice, equality, and mutual assistance. Furthermore, they highlight that a democratic regime with an independent and strong judicial system, decentralized governmental power, and independent expert review are essential for the continued existence and prosperity of medicine.
Among the signatories of the letter are renowned doctors such as Prof. Galia Rahav and Prof. Hagai Levin, who have joined in expressing their concerns about the potential harm caused by the legal revolution.
“As doctors, we are committed to upholding these values,” the doctors conclude. “We are already witnessing the first signs of damage to the medical system and health services in Israel. In line with the Rabbi’s statement from March 2023 supporting the independence of the courts, we oppose any legislation that undermines these foundations and will work to prevent it through legal and appropriate means.”
