The news already broke last weekend on the occasion of the Dutch Grand Prix, but it was not until today, June 29, when Dorna officially announced the agreement reached with Pirelli for the Italian manufacturer to become the new exclusive supplier of tires for the Moto2 and Moto3 categories between 2024 and 2026, thus replacing Dunlop, who will say goodbye to the World Cup paddock in the last round in Valencia.

Pirelli already has a long legacy as exclusive provider of all categories of the Superbike World Championship, and now expands its portfolio of two-wheeled products to include Moto2 and Moto3, the two categories prior to MotoGP. Pirelli will supply its Diablo Superbike slicks in both classes, always true to the Milan-based brand’s business motto: ‘We sell what we compete with, we compete with what we sell’.

The agreement also extends through what has been dubbed Road To MotoGP, that is, all the national championships that are the perfect springboard for the youngest riders to jump into the Motorcycle World Championship. This implies that the Finetwork FIM JuniorGP, the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup, the Northern Talent Cup and the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup will also switch to Pirelli starting next year.

Regarding MotoGP, the Italian firm would have to wait, at the earliest, at the end of 2026 to apply for the queen class; Michelin and Dorna signed a contract renewal a few months ago for three more seasons, until December 2026, so right now there is no room for Pirelli to reach MotoGP in the short term.

Carlos EzpeletaSporting Director of Dorna Sports, has assessed this important change that fully affects Moto2 and Moto3 with these words: “We are very happy to welcome Pirelli to the paddock as the sole supplier of tires for Moto2 and Moto3, and all the way to MotoGP. These championships are the best example in motorsport as reference categories and are also high-level competitions. , both for its sporting and commercial value. So we are very pleased to have seen such a high level of interest from Pirelli and to reach this agreement.Welcoming a new partner also underscores the strong connections and relationships of our sport with the industry, and we look forward to working with Pirelli in a number of areas, including performance, road relevance and, of course, sustainability.”

It is further recognition of our authority in motorsport and also a clear sign of appreciation for the work we have been doing in the Superbike World Championship for 20 years. With this new agreement, we will accompany the young promises of motorcycling to the highest competitions, WorldSBK and MotoGP.And, faithful to the philosophy that has distinguished us for years, we will do so by continuing to use products from series for sale in the market and available for purchase by all motorcyclists”.
