Caves del Castell de Perelada win the Catalunya Construcció Awards

The Caves of the Castle of Perelada have been winners of the XX Catalonia Construction Awardsorganized by the College of Technical Architecture of Barcelona (Cateb), in the category of management and construction of works.

The award was presented during the Construction Night held last June 29 at the Mercat dels Encants in Barcelona.

It was collected by the people responsible for this building, Antoni Floriach and Alejandro Segura for the construction of the Perelada Castle Caves.

The jury considers that the execution management team has been able to work with the degree of commitment and professionalism that an architectural work of this nature required, with a required level of quality that has been successfully exceeded and that deserves the highest distinction

At this year’s edition of the Catalunya Construction Awards, a total of 136 applications. The awards are supported by the Council of Colleges of Technical Architecture of Catalonia and Arquinfad.

In the category of integrated project managementthe prize has been awarded to Ramon Cisa, Sergi Barquet, Elisabet Garcia and Helena Roca by the Wittywood office building in Barcelona. It is the first office building in Spain built entirely of wood following an advanced process of prefabrication and industrialization and with a commitment to sustainability, obtaining the Leed and Well seals.

In the rehabilitation category, the award is subdivided into three areas: heritage rehabilitation, functional rehabilitation and energy rehabilitation. In the first, from patrimonial rehabilitationthe team formed by Albert Dalmau and Marina Salvador, by the Roser Cabanas Municipal School of Music in Cornellà de Llobregat. It is about the rehabilitation and reform of a new warehouse in the industrial complex of Can Bagaria, to accommodate the new premises of the municipal music school, as part of the regeneration process of the entire industrial complex promoted by the City Council of Cornellà and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB). In this category, the jury has awarded one Special Mention a Meritxell Inaraja and Monica Mauricio for the rehabilitation of the former headquarters of the Unió de Cooperadors de Gavà to allocate it to multipurpose uses linked to the projects of young entrepreneurs.

In the field of functional rehabilitation the prize has been awarded to Mariona Benedito, Martí Sanz, Alba Subirada, David Parisi and Jairo Hernández by 34 subsidized homes in Sant Feliu de Llobregat. It is an urban recycling operation, the sum of the efforts of Sant Feliu de Llobregat City Council, IMPSOL and the project and works team, which rehabilitate the last two floors of a utility building mixed houses that had fallen into disuse, to transform them into social housing under an endowment regime, responding to the municipality’s housing emergency demand.

As for the energy rehabilitation, the jury has decided to award Michael Wassouf and Angelica Rutzmoser per Project ShowPass in Barcelona. It is a demonstrative rehabilitation of the “Living Showroom” type, of a building from the beginning of the 20th century located in the urban plot of Barcelona. The energy solutions are on display to be exposed to the promoters and technicians of the sector through open days.

in the category ofinnovation in constructionthe jury has awarded 2 prizes equally. The first was for Félix Ruiz Gorrindo, Antonio Aguado and Carles Serrat for the Proposed scale to assess the degree of severity of damage to buildings. The proposal has been made within the framework of the UPC in collaboration between the School of Technical Architecture, the School of Civil Engineers and the Barcelona School of Architecture.

The second prize equally in this same area has been for Joseph Bunyesc by Designs for shepherds’ huts in the High Pyrenees. The project deals with the design and construction of minimal housing, able to cover basic needs and offer comfort in extreme climates and difficult access, to the shepherds who have to watch over their flocks against dangers such as the presence of the bear in the Pyrenees mountains.

In the category of health and safety coordinationthe award was for the candidacy presented by Eduardo Jarque for the construction of the Pediatric Cancer Center Barcelona of the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital.

The jury awarded one more year special award for professional career, that in this edition has received Jordi Viola i Garriga (83 years old), surveyor and also an architect, for his fight in favor of co-operativeism among professionals in the construction sector, as well as for the valuable work of spreading architectural culture and construction technology.

Final degree thesis

It was also awarded the prize for the final degree thesis which was awarded to Adriana Alejandra Calderon for the project Study of contextualized Peruvian vernacular housing, academic work carried out under the tutelage of Professor Maria Antonia Navarro.
