After the death of Nahel in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine), Seine-et-Marne has just experienced a new night of violence. If the beginning of the evening was rather calm, it was around midnight that the first violence began. The Saint-Fargeau-Ponthierry fire station was thus taken to task, as was the Nemours police station, which received projectile throws.

What most characterizes this new night of violence is the looting to which the thugs have engaged. In Mée-sur-Seine, the White Cross shopping center – which had thirty shops including a Carrefour City – was set on fire. Nothing remains of the various stores, the rubble of which is still smoking this morning. Around 8 a.m., many residents noticed the damage, filming this apocalypse landscape with their phones. “It’s catastrophic”, is moved a woman to her interlocutor on the phone. First deputy in charge of security, Serge Durand says he is “devastated”.

A resident arrives, in tears. “They ruined everything. But where are we really? Last night, I had to leave my apartment with my children. I saw around fifty young hooded youngsters outside… France has never reached such a level of violence…” specific robot to carry out reconnaissance, especially in basements. A machine already used after the fire of Notre-Dame de Paris.

Other stores were looted, such as in Montereau, Vaires-sur-Marne, Lieusaint, Meaux and Pontault-Combault. In Chelles, a gymnasium started to catch fire, but it was quickly brought under control by the firefighters. But if fires broke out here and there in the city, the damage is less significant compared to other municipalities in the department. Some shops were also degraded in Villeparisis. The communal social action center of the commune was set on fire.

Two elected officials from Lieusaint slightly burned

In total, “about fifty municipalities suffered material damage (fire of buildings, shops, vehicles, looting of shops), of which 19 suffered major damage”, indicates this Friday the prefecture of Seine-et-Marne, in a press release. Some 18 people were injured, including 11 among the police and two elected officials from Lieusaint, slightly burned by mortar fire. In addition, 27 rioters were arrested.

In Noisiel, the old police station was attacked with mortars and Molotov cocktails. The municipal police station, the annex town hall and the Carrefour City were also targeted and a lot of damage was noted in different parts of the city. “I now call for appeasement. Anger is a bad advisor and the degradations committed in our city are scandalous, unspeakable and inexcusable. It is up to everyone to take responsibility. I ask parents, who must watch over their children, to fully play their role in this context, ”said Mayor (PS) Mathieu Viskovic, in a press release.

In the gendarmerie zone, violence also took place. In particular in Dammartin-en-Goële, where the soldiers had to face mortar fire on several occasions. The territorial brigade was also targeted. Barricades of burning garbage cans have arisen in the Little Prince district. A policeman was slightly injured. Two people were taken into custody. In Monthyon, mortar fire also rang out in the center of the town, reaching the church. Two young people are currently in custody at the Saint-Soupplets brigade. At La Ferté-sous-Jouarre, the same picture, with garbage can fires and barricades. A school suffered damage. A mortar landed in a police car, five soldiers suffered from sound trauma. A custody is in progress.

An operational command center had been activated in the prefecture from 7 p.m. on Thursday evening. On the ground, no less than 254 firefighters, 324 gendarmes, 246 police officers, around sixty CRS, and gendarmes from the GIGN were engaged all night to fight against this violence. “I fear for the police. We no longer have the means and opposite, they have more. In certain sectors, there were no longer enough break-out grenades, the only ones that can keep the attackers at a distance. I really fear for human lives ”, laments this Friday Christophe Gonzalez, the regional secretary of the Alliance police union.
