Following the sudden cancellation, Karur district BJP executive Karthikeyan filed a petition in the Madurai branch of the Madras High Court. The plea requested the court to not only lift the ban on the BJP public meeting at Karur Tiruvalluvar Sports Ground but also order the Karur Corporation Commissioner to grant permission for the event.
During the hearing today, the Madurai High Court made some significant observations, highlighting the importance of preserving the right to freedom of speech and expression in the country. The court expressed concern over attempts made by ruling parties to prevent opposition members from addressing the public, paralleled by the opposition adopting similar practices once they come into power.
