Julio, Moncada and Artemisa

The 70 years of that feat, which, although it did not mark the victory, did point the way, seems to me to be the ideal pretext to shake us, since this is not even the Artemis of those guardarrayas, landowners, malnourished children and private schools, like nor is it yet the dream land of prosperity, values, brotherhood and commitment that those who rest in the Mausoleum proclaimed.

A plan of activities proposes the celebration between events and recognitions and a group of works are listed to cut ribbons again, as is usual on historical dates; However, at 70 of the Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés, who is still standing with that housing problem cited in La Historia will absolve me, we all have to do our bit.

What can we do for Moncada 70 years later? In my humble opinion, it constitutes the main question not to be dismissed in labor groups, even in the neighborhood, since the CDRs are in Congress and we must take advantage of that imprint together with the sometimes enthusiastic FMC.

This is not another celebration for Cuba, nor should it be for Artemisa. Julio has to start with that whisper of conspiracy that he brought together forty young people from these lands in 1953; but this time, the call can be louder, in the dirty and grassy streets, avenues and sidewalks, which are embarrassing having a workplace on one side in the midst of so much slovenliness.

Beyond flags and slogans on white cloth, let’s look at how we look in the environment? Does everything depend on thousands of pesos, or is it enough to do, if we recall the humble huts of many of the same Moncadistas, with few lights and no luxury, but sparkling clean?

This is only in part, a look at the visible transformations, towards the image of the head municipality, and of a province that we cannot let deteriorate, despite shops without services, disabled parks, and other closed doors.

However, beyond rejuvenating and revolutionizing our 11 municipalities, what we owe the most to Moncada, and also to that other son from Artemisa, Ramón Pez Ferro, from Candelaria, who is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the feat, is to return again and again on the steps of history.

What did they do, how and in what context? What do we do today, how and in what context? Let’s compare ourselves, saving the distance, with the boys from Moncada, with those love-struck boys who played barefoot in front of their houses, but let’s look at them all from the youngest of them, Pez Ferro, who at only 19 years old cherished a fixed idea to the who has always been faithful to him, and a paradigm to follow: Fidel.

Moncada’s 70s are an opportunity, a reason. It could be the date to establish commitments or to fulfill them; to mark a before and after; to return or visit for the first time the Mausoleum of the Martyrs of Artemis with our routes through history; to live the summer differently, because despite the shortcomings, there are many reserves; we just need to be more ingenious, creative and empathetic. Let’s do it for the Moncada boys!
