Gröna Lund Amusement Park Extends Closure Following Fatal Accident, Set to Reopen on Wednesday
Gröna Lund amusement park in Stockholm has remained closed since last Sunday when a tragic accident occurred, resulting in the derailment of the Jetline roller coaster during a ride. The incident claimed the life of a woman in her 30s and left several others injured.
In response to the accident, Gröna Lund initially announced plans to open the park as a walking area on Monday, allowing visitors to stroll through the park without any attractions, games, or points of sale in operation.
“Our thoughts continue to be with those affected and their relatives. Before we open Gröna Lund, we want to provide the opportunity for visitors to come to the park and have a moment of tranquility. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Gröna Lund’s visitors for the care they have shown to the victims, their families, and our employees,” said CEO Jan Eriksson in a press release.
However, it has now been revealed that the reopening of the park to paying guests will only take place on Wednesday, as the closure of the attractions is being extended by two days. This decision has been made to ensure thorough checks are carried out on all the park’s attractions before welcoming visitors again.
To ensure the highest level of safety, Gröna Lund is conducting extra inspections on all its attractions in the lead-up to the reopening. In addition, external independent inspection engineers have been brought in to carry out additional inspections on 17 attractions within the park.
The tragic incident on the Jetline roller coaster has prompted authorities, park officials, and engineering experts to reassess safety protocols and measures across amusement parks in the country.
