The Portuguese technician will leave the Brazilian club Botafogo to take the reins of the Riyadh team.

Portuguese Luis Castro will leave Brazil and Botafogo to coach Al Nassr, the Saudi club of his compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo, the Rio de Janeiro club said on Friday. “Botafogo was informed by coach Luis Castro of his decision to accept a proposal from a club abroad, which puts an end to his activity as a technician for the team“said the carioca club in a press release.

Castro, 61, said two weeks ago that he had received a financially tempting offer from the Saudi team for a two-year contract. The Al Nassr club has not yet formalized the arrival of the coach. Castro notably led Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine before arriving in March 2022 at Botafogo, owned by American businessman John Textor, who also bought Olympique Lyonnais this year. In addition to Cristiano Ronaldo, Al Nassr have other well-known players in their squad, such as Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina, Brazilian midfielder Luiz Gustavo and Argentinian striker Gonzalo Martinez.
