Dilano van’t Hoff did not survive the accident in which he was involved this Saturday at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The Dutch driver died during the second race of the fourth stage of the Formula Regional European Championship 2023 by Alpine (FRECA). On a wet track, he lost control of his single-seater and was then barely hit by another competitor.
“We are devastated by the loss of one of our brightest Dutch talents, who brought so much energy to our team during the years he raced with us,” his MP Motorsport team wrote in a statement. Dilano has been part of our racing family since his motorsport debut with MP in 2021.”
Van’t Hoff had notably been titled in the Spanish Formula 4 championship in 2021. He had started in FRECA in September of the same year. The drama recalls the death of Frenchman Anthoine Hubert, who also lost his life on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in 2019.
Close to Hubert, Pierre Gasly has also paid tribute to Van’t Hoff on Instagram. “Extremely sad to learn of Dilano’s death at Spa. All my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones. RIP young champion! ” Teams or drivers, such as Max Verstappen or Lando Norris have also expressed their sadness on social networks. A minute of silence was observed in Austria, on the grid of the Formula 2 race in honor of the Dutch driver.
