Man Released from Prison Confesses to 2002 Murders of Pregnant Woman and Child

Heflin, Alabama – In a shocking revelation, a man who had recently completed a 20-year prison sentence in Florida has confessed to the brutal stabbings of a pregnant woman and her son, according to the Heflin Police Department. The incident took place in 2002, but the case remained unsolved until now.

Lewis Ladon Spivey, 39, was taken into custody by authorities on June 26 after two murder warrants were obtained, the police said in a statement released on Friday. Spivey has since been transported to the Cleburne County jail in Alabama.

The investigation into the double murder spanned over two decades and involved multiple agencies, the police revealed. The breakthrough came after Spivey’s release from a Florida prison, where he had been serving a sentence for unrelated crimes.

Records from the Florida Department of Corrections indicate that Spivey was sentenced in 2010 to 15 years for robbery with a gun or deadly weapon and five years for aggravated assault. These charges stemmed from offenses committed in 2009.

The bodies of Monica and Dalton Rollins were discovered at their residence on Sugar Hill Drive in Heflin back in September 2002. Both victims had been fatally stabbed several days prior to the discovery. Fortunately, Monica Rollins’ youngest son, who was three-years-old at the time, was found unharmed inside the house.

According to law enforcement officials, Spivey has provided a “complete confession” in which he detailed the events of that fateful day and claimed full responsibility for both murders. The motive behind the killings and Spivey’s connection to the Rollins family remain unknown.

Heflin, Alabama is located approximately 76 miles east of Birmingham.
