Chennai: In a significant development, a group of Dikshitars from the renowned Chidambaram Nataraja Temple met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in person at her residence in Chennai. The meeting primarily revolved around addressing concerns surrounding the Kanakasabha (Golden Council) at the temple.

Chidambaram Nataraja Temple, also known as the Aadalvallan Nataraja Temple, holds immense spiritual significance among the Panchabhuta places. Pilgrims from all corners of the world flock to this heavenly destination, where Nataraja’s Golden Council is revered by devotees.

Unfortunately, the temple has recently found itself embroiled in various controversies, including allegations of financial fraud and child marriage. One particular issue that has sparked considerable debate is the alleged collection of separate fees by the Dikshitars for darshan (viewing) of the deity by climbing the Kanakasabha.

Prompted by the frenzy surrounding this matter, the Tamil Nadu government intervened and conducted an investigation. As a result, the Kanakasabha announced that devotees would be allowed darshan at Meetheri, putting an end to the controversy. To enforce this decision, an ordinance was issued in May of last year.

However, the renewed emergence of the Kanakasabha issue has prompted the Tamil Nadu Charity Department to seek control of the Chidambaram Nataraja Temple. In response, Hindu Religious Endowment Minister Shekharbabu emphasized that the government would intervene whenever violations occur in the temple.

This situation has led to a political conflict between the ruling DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) and the opposition BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party). BJP state president Annamalai warned that if the state government continues to disturb the devotees of the Chidambaram Nataraja Temple, he would personally lead a protest at the site.

In light of the escalating tensions and the need for a resolution, a delegation of Chidambaram Nataraja Temple Dikshitars met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Chennai. The meeting, held yesterday, saw three Dikshitars led by General Dikshitars Committee Secretary Sivarama Dikshitar.

During the meeting, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is reported to have inquired about the various issues plaguing the temple, with a specific focus on the Kanakasabha matter.

As this saga unfolds, all eyes are on the temple authorities, the Dikshitars, the Tamil Nadu government, and the respective political parties involved. The resolution of the Kanakasabha issue and the overall restoration of harmony at the Chidambaram Nataraja Temple remain a top priority for all stakeholders involved.
