Serge Vieira is dead, announced his family this Saturday, July 1, througha Facebook post. Born into a family of five children, parents of Portuguese immigration, Serge Vieira had chosen the kitchen during an apprenticeship. After obtaining his BEP, he worked for renowned restaurants, such as Le Château de Marçay in Chinon or L’Espérance in Saint-Père, under the aegis of Marc Meneau. Then, it was with his wife Marie-Aude that the young chef joined Régis Marcon’s restaurant.

For three years, at the latter’s table, he trained and ended up winning the Bocuse d’Or in 2005, one of the world’s most prestigious cooking competitions. Four years later, the couple moved to Serge’s native Auvergne. The Château de Couffour in Chaudes-Aigues was chosen to open a restaurant. With his cuisine, based on local but above all quality products, the chef obtained two Michelin stars, first in 2010 and then in 2012. In 2019, he opened an establishment called Sodade, where he offers bistronomic cuisine within hotel.

An invested but discreet personality

Serge Vieira was a particularly invested personality. He was thus involved in the Bocuse d’Or, being a consultant and then a coach for the Australian team, because his second, Dan Arnold, was a candidate, we learn The mountain. He had also helped Davy Tissot to win the 2021 Bocuse d’or. These commitments had enabled him to be crowned Knight of the National Order of Merit in June 2022. He had also proposed the French Mountain Bike Championships (he was a cycling enthusiast) and starred chefs football.

If he was known and appreciated in the community, Serge Vieira was a personality with little media coverage. He had always refused requests to participate in television shows of culinary competitions.
