A shower of condemnations. After the car-ram attack on the night of the home of the LR mayor of L’Haÿ-les-Roses (Val-de-Marne) Vincent Jeanbrun, the political class reacted widely. The mayor’s wife and one of his two young children were injured in the attack which has been investigated for attempted murder.

Referring to “intolerable facts”, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne assured in a press release that “the culprits will be prosecuted with the greatest firmness”. She spoke on Sunday morning with the president of the AMIF (Association of mayors of Île-de-France) and that of the AMF (Association of mayors of France) to “assure them of her support and that of the government to all the mayors who are alongside the inhabitants on the front line in the face of violence”.

“To attack the life of an elected official and that of his family is to attack the Nation”, reacted on Twitter the President of the Senate Gérard Larcher (LR), in tune with his counterpart of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, for whom “public engagement should never be synonymous with danger, neither for oneself nor for those one loves”.

“Immense anger” at “this spiral of violence”

On Twitter, Éric Ciotti, the boss of the Republicans, of which Vincent Jeanbrun was recently appointed spokesperson, condemned “acts of extreme gravity which must lead their authors to an assize court”. “The cowardice and ignominy of such an attack will not make him back down. Honor to his courage, ”launched the president of Île-de-France Valérie Pécresse, to whom Vincent Jeanbrun is very close.

On the far right, Marine Le Pen believes that a “new milestone has been crossed”, sending all her “thoughts” to the mayor’s family. Same comment on the side of the president of Reconquest, Éric Zemmour according to which “a course has yet been crossed”. “These savages dared to touch his family, because he is only wrong to be mayor and therefore to represent France”, he reacts vehemently.

Also on the left, Marine Tondelier, number one of EELV, assured that “ecologists give their fullest support to Vincent Jeanbrun”. “What he experienced is unspeakable”, she tweeted, in tune with the first secretary of the PS who evokes “tremendous anger” in the face of “this spiral of violence” and brings his “solidarity” to the mayor.

“All my best wishes for a speedy recovery. This violence is intolerable, unjustifiable, inadmissible, ”wrote MP LFI François Ruffin on Twitter. “I share the fear of the Jeanbrun family”, reacted soberly Jean-Luc Mélenchon, sharing a press release from the LFI group of the Île-de-France regional council, reaffirming “any refusal of violence”.
