Mass Shooting Claims Two Lives at Block Party in Baltimore

Baltimore witnessed a horrific incident of violence on Sunday as a mass shooting took place at a block party in the Brooklyn neighborhood of South Baltimore. According to police, two individuals lost their lives, and dozens more sustained injuries in the tragic incident.

The shooting occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning at the 800 block of Gretna Court. Reports of gunshots were received by the police around 12:30 a.m. A devastating toll was taken as at least 30 people were shot, with three individuals currently in critical condition.

Among the victims was an 18-year-old woman who was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 20-year-old who succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital. The University of Maryland Medical System confirmed that Shock Trauma Center received 12 victims, while four people were taken to the pediatric emergency department.

Acting Baltimore City Police Commissioner Richard Worley provided a statement on the incident, stating that “multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds” were found upon police arrival. He also mentioned that in addition to the victims brought to hospitals by emergency services, 20 other victims self-transported themselves for medical attention.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott also arrived at the scene to address the tragedy. Expressing determination, he declared, “We will not stop until we find those cowards who decided to just shoot dozens of people, causing two people to lose their lives.” Mayor Scott promised that the perpetrators would be held accountable for their actions in the interest of justice for the community.

No suspects have been arrested at this time, but investigators are actively reviewing video surveillance footage to gather leads and identify potential suspects. The police have urged anyone with information to contact the Baltimore Police homicide detectives or Metro Crime Stoppers.

The aftermath of the incident was captured in a tweet by Alexus Davila, where debris from the block party was seen being cleared while caution tape continued to block off the area.

The community is left shocked and grieving as they come to terms with the senseless violence that unfolded during what should have been a joyous event. As Baltimore mourns the loss of two lives and prays for the recovery of the injured, the city remains united in their determination for justice and an end to such acts of violence.

This is an ongoing investigation, and WJZ will continue to provide updates on the incident as they become available.
