Imbal: Protesters End Blockade of National Highway After Talks with Home Minister Amit Shah

After engaging in talks with Home Minister Amit Shah, protest groups in Imbal have announced that they will abandon the blockade of the national highway. The decision aims to facilitate the public in accessing their essential needs. The announcement comes as a relief to the residents who have been affected by the blockade, which has caused severe disruptions.

In other news, the Imphal West district is set to witness an end to Section 144, which has been in effect for several weeks. The district administration has lifted the prohibition order from tomorrow morning to evening. The decision comes as a result of a significant improvement in law and order in the area.

However, the northeastern state of Manipur continues to witness conflict between the majority Meidi community and the tribal Koogi community over reservation. This conflict has resulted in the loss of more than 100 lives since it erupted on May 3. Seeking a resolution to the violence, executives from the United People’s Front and Kuki National Organization recently met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

During the meeting, the organizations emphasized the need for adequate security in the border and hilly villages that are at risk of riots. They also requested the deployment of central forces to all affected areas, with the aim of restoring peace. Following the discussions, the United People’s Front and Kuki National Organization have announced their immediate withdrawal of the Gangui blockade on the National Highway (NH2).

The decision to withdraw the blockade was made in consultation with various community organizations, village leaders, youth, and women leaders in Manipur. This move is expected to provide relief to the local population and allow them to access essential commodities without hindrance.

Simultaneously, in the Imphal West district, the Additional District Magistrate, Johnson Mitty, issued a press release regarding the temporary withdrawal of the injunction. The press release states that the enforcement of Prohibitory Order 144 has led to a significant improvement in law and order. As a result, the prohibition order will be lifted from 5:00 am to 6:00 pm tomorrow (July 3rd).

The announcement of the withdrawal of the blockade and the lifting of the Section 144 injunction brings hope for the restoration of peace and normalcy in Imbal and the surrounding areas. The government’s efforts to address the concerns of the protest groups and ensure the safety of the residents are indeed a step in the right direction.
