BMW puts the sporty crown on its still young entry-level crossover X1 with the M35i. The driving dynamics experts can also look forward to the new top model in terms of looks.

A real M version remains that BMW X1 as well as all other small models of the Bavarians withheld unchanged. But the X1 M35i with its 221 kW / 300 hp two-liter turbo engine should probably satisfy most ambitious customers. Even if the same US version delivers a more lavish 233 kW / 317 hp and the previous generation with the BMW X2 M35i also delivered 225 kW / 306 hp. The turbocharged four-cylinder in the new model accelerates the all-wheel drive vehicle to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds thanks to a maximum torque of 400 Nm in the speed range between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm via the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It is electronically limited to 250 km/h. The standard consumption is between 8.0 and 8.5 liters of premium fuel.

Visually, the top model presents itself with the usual sporty extras such as sporty aprons, spoilers, quadruple tailpipes and either 19 or 20-inch alloy wheels. In contrast to the other X1 versions, the electronically controlled chassis is 15 millimeters lower. The all-wheel drive system with variable power distribution and a correspondingly selectable driving program has an electronic differential lock on the front axle in order to get the engine power onto the road better. On request, the BMW X1 M35i xDrive also offers a compound brake system with four-piston fixed calipers at the front and a diameter of 385 millimeters for maximum deceleration. At the back, the floating caliper has a diameter of 330 millimeters.

Inside, the M35i attracts standard features including sports seats, two 10.1 or 10.7-inch displays, navigation / driver assistance systems and automatic climate control. The Pro sports package, which is available for the first time, brings even more sportiness, which gives the X1, among other things, M sports seats, 20-inch wheels and a sports brake system. Nevertheless, the practicality does not come with a 40:20:40 split rear seat, electric tailgate and a loading volume of 540 to 1,600 liters too short. The market launch for the BMW X1 M35i xDrive, which costs at least 62,000 euros, is in the fourth quarter. The small crossover is produced at the Regensburg plant.
