Dubai has tightened precautionary measures in connection with the New Year celebrations. Violation of precautionary measures, including wearing a mask, carries a fine of up to 3,000 dirhams, the Supreme Committee of the Dubai Disaster Management Committee has said.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The move comes at the behest of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.

Facilities have been set up at 29 places for the public to enjoy fireworks. There will be heavy monitoring of whether precautionary measures are being followed. The committee evaluated the preparations for the New Year celebrations and the current situation.
