Although traditionally International Pride Day is celebrated on June 28, the community mobilizations were moved to this Sunday, July 2, in order to have a greater convening capacity.

This year’s marches have as their main motto ‘We want ourselves alive, for a #IntegralTransYa Law’ and throughout the country they march so that both people who identify with this community, and those who do not –but who want to support– raise their voices for the Government to promote the Comprehensive Trans Law for the recognition of the community.

In Bogotá, the mobilizations began at noon in the Bogotá Council. The march will go to Simón Bolívar Park, along El Dorado Avenue and Carrera 68. Mayor Claudia López invited all the citizens of the capital to attend the march with respect.

In the case of Medellín, according to local authorities, more than 10,000 people are expected walking the streets of the city. The opening day will be with a bazaar or market between the Jaime Isaza Cadavid Polytechnic and the Inem, where the protagonists will be the enterprises.

Meanwhile, the mobilization in Medellín is carried out along Las Vegas avenue, near the Inem José Félix de Restrepo Educational Institution, and ending in the well-known Parque de Las Luces, in the La Alpujarra sector during the hours of the late.

Another reason why these marches are carried out in the country is because this community in general asks for more protection, taking into account that Colombia is the deadliest Latin American country for sexual and gender dissidence.

At least 148 people from the community were killed, according to a report by the Regional Information Network on LGBTI Violence in Latin America and the Caribbean.
