Golden State Warriors Sign Point Guard Cory Joseph to One-Year Deal

In an effort to bolster their roster and add depth at the point guard position, the Golden State Warriors have signed veteran Cory Joseph to a one-year deal. The move comes after a slow start to free agency for the Warriors but addresses their need for a third-string point guard behind Stephen Curry and newly acquired Chris Paul.

The signing was reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who confirmed the deal on Sunday. Joseph, a 31-year-old with a wealth of NBA experience, brings stability and reliability to the Warriors’ roster.

Initially, Golden State had hoped to secure Ty Jerome to a standard contract after he played 45 games on a two-way deal this season. However, Jerome ultimately signed a two-year deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, leaving the Warriors in need of insurance at the point guard position.

Enter Cory Joseph, who spent last season with the rebuilding Detroit Pistons. He played 62 games, averaging 19.8 minutes, 6.9 points, and 3.5 assists while shooting an impressive 38.9% from three-point range. In the previous season, Joseph started 39 games for the Pistons, averaging eight points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists on a career-high 41.4% from deep.

Although there may have been younger and higher potential guards available in free agency, the Warriors opted for Joseph’s experience and reliability. He will serve as a steady and consistent option when Curry and Paul need rest during the regular season. Additionally, Joseph’s off-ball three-point shooting ability, connecting on 41.4% of catch-and-shoot triples this season, will be a valuable asset alongside Curry or Paul.

With the addition of Joseph, the Warriors now have 12 contracted players, leaving three spots available on their roster. The team is expected to fill two of those spots in the near future, focusing on backup big men and more forward depth.

The signing of Cory Joseph demonstrates the Warriors’ commitment to building a well-rounded roster that can compete at a high level in the upcoming season. As fans eagerly await more player acquisitions, Golden State’s front office continues their relentless pursuit of strengthening the team.
