In front of a children’s home in the village of Dlugie in the south-east of Poland, a metal box appeared, wrapped in a chain and fitted with a coded lock. The orphanage called the police instead. Inside the box, however, the police found sweets and banknotes with a total value of 100,000 zlotys (about 534,000 CZK), TVN 24 reported on its website on Sunday.

At seven in the morning on Saturday, an employee of the children’s home noticed not only the locker, but also the person leaving. It was not clear if it was a man or a woman, however, the person did not respond to attempts to make contact.

“Please don’t worry. The package is a gift. It’s nothing dangerous,” assured the note left on the box. However, the employees preferred to report the find to the police, who also arrived at the scene with pyrotechnicians, who checked the find. Meanwhile, the director of the orphanage received the code to open the lock by phone: four sevens. The code worked correctly and after opening it, which the policeman preferred to do, it turned out that the box was full of sweets and bills.

The identity of the generous donor remains a secret. The orphanage is going to deposit the money into a bank account as soon as it opens on Monday – and that will also be an opportunity to verify the authenticity of the notes. He has not yet commented on the gift.

The police have since confirmed that the incident did happen, adding that they are not looking for the donor or taking any further action on the matter.
