The government’s next moves to address punctuality
Today, Monday, July 3, the last scheduled installment of the Market Pass is expected to be paid, for those who had chosen to deposit on a physical card. It is a reminder that those who have chosen to deposit into an account have been paid the full amount and have nothing else to expect.
The government, however, seems to be aiming to continue both measures to deal with punctuality – mainly in relation to food: it is the extension of both the Market Pass and the “Household Basket”.
Market Pass
According to information, the most likely scenario is that Market Pass gets a three-month extension, however the five-month scenario (August to December 2023) is also being considered. The budget of the program will be 100 million per month, while the monthly subsidy will remain constant from 22 to 100 euros, while it concerns approximately 8.5 million citizens. Then, according to competent sources, the measure will be reviewed and, depending on the course of accuracy and fiscal margins, it cannot be ruled out that it will be extended until the end of the year.
In order to receive the full amount of the Market Pass, one must choose to deposit on a digital immaterial card, which is redeemed at POS (supermarkets, grocers, butchers, patisseries, dairies, bakeries, fishmongers, convenience stores).
In the event that the beneficiary chooses the deposit into an account then he will receive 80% of the subsidy.
Meanwhile, a few days remain for the last round of market pass payments that will start on Monday 03/07 for the beneficiaries of the immaterial digital card. Specifically, as already announced, payments are made to the intangible cards every 3rd of the month until July.
Digital debit cards will automatically expire on August 31, 2023 and will not be able to be used for transactions after that date. Of course, if the measure is extended, the date is likely to change.
It is worth noting that to the 300 million euros of the market pass are added the measures amounting to 720 million euros announced by the ND in the pre-election period for 2024.
What stage is the payment at?
To see what stage the process is at, the user should go to vouchers.gov.gr and be informed about the progress of the request. The message of the payment of the second installment will read:
SENT – IN PROCESSING BY BANKING INSTITUTION
When the money is now credited, the following message will appear:
COMPLETED: This payment has been completed successfully.
It is noted that the amounts to be paid per household are as follows:
22 euros in a single-member household
32 euros for a couple without children
32 euros to a single-parent family with a dependent child
42 euros for a single-parent family with two dependent children
42 euros to a couple with a dependent child
52 euros for a couple with two dependent children
62 euros to a couple with three dependent children
72 euros to a couple with four dependent children
Purchases with credit card
The stores where consumers can redeem their market pass money are:
Grocery stores, supermarkets, butchers, pastry shops, dairy shops, bakeries, as well as various food shops.
Any transfer to a third party or withdrawal of the amount credited to the debit card is not possible.
The digital debit card is used through a device that supports contactless transaction technology (Web/Virtual POS).
The digital debit card will remain activated until 31/08/2023. Then, the credit institution or financial organization that granted it is obliged to deactivate it immediately, while any balance that has not been used is lost.
