Stars of social networks, the lavender fields in the Beauce are in crisis

Only the cicadas are missing from the postcard. In La Ferté-Villeneuil, in the town of Cloyes-les-Trois-Rivières (Eure-et-Loir), from June to the end of July, the flowering lavandin brings its blue-violet touches typical of the south of France. The fields are buzzing and the smell of lavender fills the surroundings. Yet we are here at the gates of Beauce, an hour and a half from Paris and 800 km from the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. A landscape that surprises René and Monique, retirees from Loire-Atlantique. Car stopped on the roadside and smartphone in hand, they immortalize the view. “It’s like being in Provence”, smiles Monique.
