OSE water: high levels of chloride and sodium.

In a report released this Monday by the Presidency of the Republic, the alarming average of chloride and sodium was revealed present in the agua provided by the State Sanitation Works Administration (OR) in Montevideo and the metropolitan area.

These data, provided by OSE and the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), show worrying figures that exceed the limits established by the competent authorities, and by far the maximum recommended by the World Health Organization (OMS).

Regarding chlorides, the report details that the measurements show an average of 845 mg/L (milligrams per liter) in pumping line 4, from 837 mg/L on line 5 and 842 mg/L in line 6. It is important to note that the maximum level of chloride authorized by the MSP, after a request for an increase by the OSE, is 720 mg/Lso all pump lines exceed this worrying limit.

Chloride also reached maximum levels in OSE water

In addition, it has been observed that in all lines Chloride values have exceeded those registered since Maywith the exception of pumping line 6, whose average value for this Monday is equal to that registered on June 17 and 19. This situation is cause for great concern, since it indicates an upward trend in the chloride levels present in the water supplied to the population.

As for sodium, the measurements reveal an average of 501 mg/L in pumping line 4, from 497 mg/L on line 5 and 499 mg/L in line 6. The maximum sodium authorized by the authorities is , which implies that all the pumping lines also exceed this established limit.

It is alarming to note that the maximum value recorded since May in terms of sodium levels has even been reached, except in the sixth pumping line that on June 17 registered 509 mg/L and on June 19 it reached 508 mg/L . This worrying trend in the sodium content in supply water poses a risk to the health of the population.

Additionally, it was reported that the total consumption of Montevideo and the metropolitan area this Monday was 504,073 m3 of water. However, the reserves in the Paso Severino dam present a bleak outlook, with only 1,173,573 m3 available. This situation poses a worrying scenario in terms of the future availability of drinking water for the population.
