JAKARTA – The level of public trust in the Police has increased based on a survey of Indonesian Political Indicators. The Central Head of the Islamic Unity Student Association (Hima Persis) sees this as a form of success for the National Police Chief, General Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo, in reforming the institution he leads.

According to the general chairman of PP Hima Persis, Ilham Nurhidayatullah, this increase in public trust is the fruit of serious reforms made by the National Police Chief. Improved performance as per Presisi’s motto has also contributed to making the police institution better and more professional.

“We appreciate this increase as a form of the police’s seriousness and hard work in maintaining security and order and serving the community. In my opinion, the Chief of Police has succeeded in improving our police institution. I think the motto of Precision can bring Polri personnel to be better and more professional,” Ilham said, Tuesday (4 /7/2023).

As previously reported, the level of public trust in Polri reached 76.4% in June 2023. This level of trust is the highest since the same period last year, before the Ferdy Sambo case appeared to the public.

The results of the Political Indicator survey show that this level of trust consists of 65.6% of respondents quite trusting and 10.8% of respondents highly trusting the Police. “Apparently, in less than a year the police managed to restore their image,” said Executive Director of Indicators Burhanuddin Muhtadi when presenting the results of a survey entitled Public Evaluation of the Performance of Law Enforcement and Tax Enforcement Agencies virtually, Sunday (2/7/2023).

Burhanuddin said, at the release of the August 2022 survey, public trust in the National Police had fallen to 54%. At that time, the survey was conducted approximately a month after the premeditated murder by Ferdy Sambo. “We say that is the lowest trust (to) the police. We announced it then,” he said.

The indicator also found high public confidence that Polri is capable of carrying out internal reforms. The majority of respondents believe the current police are capable of internal reform. “Those who believe enough, the figure reaches 66.8%. While those who really believe are 2.9%. In total, the figure becomes 69.7%.”
