Title: Mike Trout Exits Game with Possible Wrist Injury

Date: July 4, 2023

Los Angeles Angels’ star outfielder, Mike Trout, left Monday night’s game against the San Diego Padres in the eighth inning after sustaining a wrist injury. Trout’s injury is reported to be on his left wrist, and he expressed concern about it after the game.

The incident occurred when Trout fouled off an 0-1 pitch from Nick Martinez, immediately clutching his left arm in discomfort. Despite briefly returning to the batter’s box, Trout signaled for assistance from the dugout, prompting Angels manager Phil Nevin and a trainer to attend to him. He was subsequently removed from the game, and Mickey Moniak finished the at-bat, which resulted in a strikeout charged to Trout.

Trout underwent testing, including X-rays, on his injured wrist and is currently awaiting the results. Speaking about the injury, Trout stated, “I just took a swing and something felt uncomfortable. Just waiting on getting some scans and hoping for the best.”

The three-time AL MVP expressed his concern and described the pain he felt, stating, “It doesn’t feel great. Hopefully just a sprained wrist. I can’t describe the pain I felt. I never felt it before, ever, before this. I never had wrist problems or anything. Just freak things.”

The Angels, who are already grappling with injuries to several key infielders including Anthony Rendon, Zach Neto, Brandon Drury, and Gio Urshela, have suffered their fifth loss in the last six games.

Manager Phil Nevin acknowledged the challenges caused by the team’s injury situation, saying, “We’ve talked all along about our depth and it’s been tested. We’ve been adding to that. We’ve lost some big pieces to this.” Nevin also highlighted that the situation presents an opportunity for other players to step up and contribute.

In the game before his injury, Trout was productive with two hits and a walk, including an RBI single in the sixth inning. So far this season, he holds a batting average of .263, accompanied by 18 home runs and 44 RBIs in 81 games. Trout had recently been named to his 11th All-Star team and is set to start in next week’s game in Seattle, having missed the previous two due to injuries.
