To guarantee the delivery of technical aids and comprehensive care to people with some type of disability, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) executes the project to Strengthen Comprehensive Care, Detection, Prevention, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of People with Disabilities in Ecuador. The holder of this State Portfolio, José Ruales, announced in Cuenca that the Project has a priority until 2025 with a total investment of USD 84 million.
With the participation of citizens, the Minister of Health pointed out that “the acquisition of technical aids, rehabilitation services, equipment and comprehensive care are financed for three years.” Nationwide, the MSP has delivered 7,473 hearing aids, benefiting more than 5,000 people.
At the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital (HVCM), in Cuenca, between 2022 and 2023, 1,134 specialized technical aids were acquired that benefit 1,128 people with disabilities. This July 4, 84 technical aids were delivered, only, in this health facility that is a pioneer in performing the largest number of cochlear implant surgeries and the delivery of hearing aids.
“The delivery of the new processors for each one of us represents hope, confidence and a blessing for our families. Today, we celebrate listening and being heard, I am grateful for the public health policies implemented and strengthened”, expressed Emilio Bustamante, a 19-year-old patient who received a cochlear implant, improving his quality of life and academic relationship.
The health authority also reported that 162 specialist doctors and nurses were hired at the HVCM to cover the gap in human talent and guarantee care in the health services that were implemented. Additionally, he announced that 15 new ambulances will be delivered to the province of Azuay from the batch that will begin to arrive from September 2023.
