The Attorney General’s Office (AGU) sent, this Monday, 03, to the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) a criminal complaint against federal deputy Gustavo Gayer (PL-GO). The decision was taken after an interview given by the parliamentarian to a podcast (audio material available on devices with internet access) last week.

According to the AGU, Gayer would have associated Africans with people with low intelligence quotient (IQ). During the conversation with presenter Rodrigo Barbosa Arantes, the deputy would have said that the population of that continent does not have the capacity to live in a democratic regime.

For the AGU, the deputy’s statements were discriminatory. “The demonstration is clearly discriminatory, as it differentiates the cognitive capacity of human beings considering their African origin, a continent in which the majority of the population is known to be black, concluding that they would not be able to understand a democratic regime”, concluded the agency.

It will be up to the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, to evaluate the crime news. The document was prepared by the National Prosecutor’s Office of the Union for the Defense of Democracy (PNDD).

A Brazil Agency contacted Gustavo Gayer’s office and is waiting for a response.

In a video posted on social media, Gayer said his interview was taken out of context and posted online. The parliamentarian said he made comments about the quality of education and malnutrition on the continent, factors that, according to him, have an impact on the population’s IQ.
