Minister of Health Appoints Members for Patient Council’s Third Term

STOCKHOLM – The Minister of Health, Acko Ankarberg Johansson, has announced the appointment of 13 members for the patient council’s third term, which will run from July 2023 to June 2025. The Patient Council serves as a vital platform for dialogue between the Swedish government and civil society organizations representing the interests of patients and their relatives.

Minister Johansson expressed his anticipation for continued dialogues, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the government and patient representatives. “The Patient Council plays a crucial role in ensuring that the concerns and needs of patients and their loved ones are heard,” he remarked.

Under the leadership of Minister Johansson, the council will convene three times every six months. In addition to the appointed members, patient and related organizations that are not part of the council will be invited to one of these three meetings.

The 13 members of the patient council for the upcoming term were determined following a selection process. On June 22, Minister Johansson made the final decision after inviting 13 organizations to nominate representatives. The selected individuals will bring their expertise and unique perspectives to the council’s discussions and activities.

The appointed members for the patient council’s third term, July 2023 – June 2025, are as follows:

– Pia Delin from the Gastrointestinal Association
– Flemming Holmgaard Kristensen from the Swedish Diabetes Association
– Lars-Ingvar Johansson from The network against cancer

– Lise Lidbäck from Neuroförbundet
– Tina Norgren from the Psoriasis Association
– Mikaela Odemyr from the Asthma and Allergy Association
– Eva Sandström from the National Association of Relatives
– Marie Sten from Functional Law Sweden
– Åsa Strahlemo from DHR
– Maria Westerlund from Riksförbundet Rare diagnoses
– Anders Åkesson from the Swedish Heart and Lung Association

The diverse backgrounds and knowledge of these individuals will contribute to the council’s endeavors to improve patient care and advocate for their needs. Their involvement signifies a strong commitment by the Swedish government to prioritize patient-centered healthcare.

As the third term begins in July, the patient council is expected to continue working towards enhancing healthcare processes, policies, and services, ensuring that the voices of patients and their relatives remain central to decision-making.
