Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti will take over as coach of the Brazil team from the 2024 Copa América, sources from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) have confirmed.
Ancelotti, 64, will be the first foreigner to direct the ‘Seleção’ in almost six decades. He is expected to make his debut in charge of the five-time champions in the Copa América in the United States (June 20-July 14, 2024), once his current contract with Real Madrid expires.
The head of Brazilian football announced this during the confirmation of Fernando Diniz as interim coach until the Italian takes charge of the team. “There are many good coaches in Brazil, and Diniz is one of them. I realized his innovative approach when he worked at Audax. Later, he went through other clubs maintaining the same game philosophy, without constantly changing it. He has always followed the same method and I really liked his renewal and his tactical applications. So, he is a coach whose game proposal is quite similar to that of the coach he will take over after the Copa América, Ancelotti. They have almost the same type of approach to the game”, assured Rodrigues at the CBF headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, thus confirming the arrival of the Italian on the bench.
Until then, Fernando Diniz has been hired as coach of the Brazil national team on a 12-month contract that will expire when Carlo Ancelotti’s contract with Real Madrid ends. The 49-year-old Fluminense coach will keep his position at the Rio de Janeiro club. He takes over from Ramón Menezes, who led the team to this year’s friendlies on an interim basis.
Neither Real Madrid nor Ancelotti himself have ruled on this announcement that had been rumored for months. The Copa América takes place between June 20 and July 14, 2024, so Ancelotti will have a few days to train his new footballers in the event that the white club reaches the Champions League final, which will be played next June 1. La Liga ends the week before (May 26).
