The EU is threatening Kosovo with sanctions and is leaving Serb Presidents Dodik and Vučić unmolested. This has something to do with Ukraine, but shows double standards.

In the Balkans, crises are often invoked that in reality are not. However, the recent tensions there are actually worrying. The unrest in northern Kosovo was not far short of the deaths of soldiers from the NATO-led security force or demonstrators. Meanwhile, in Bosnia-Hercegovina, the local Serb President Milorad Dodik is going further than ever in his undermining of the state by no longer wanting to recognize the verdicts of the state constitutional court in his sphere of rule.

It would be naïve to see developments in Kosovo and Bosnia as unrelated events. Serbia in particular is currently testing how far it can go. Belgrade never gave up the dream of “Greater Serbia”. The project now only operates under a different term, that of the “Serbian world”. It is no coincidence that the wording was borrowed from Russian models.
