The foreign citizen received her first care at the Republic of Ecuador Hospital of the MSP in Santa Cruz, where the emergency interventions were carried out and once stabilized and out of danger, the air medical evacuation was carried out in coordination with the Ecuadorian Navy, by helicopter until San Cristóbal Island and from there by air to mainland Ecuador. The patient traveled accompanied by health professionals from the MSP to receive medical support during the flight until her arrival in Guayaquil, where she was transferred in stable condition, to a health home covered by the international medical insurance that she owns. .

In 2023, the MSP, in coordination with the air medical transport service of the National Navy, has carried out more than 30 air medical transfers in the Galapagos Islands and to the mainland, in care for patients who required more complex care.

This year the need for transfers to the mainland has been reduced by 50% thanks to the improvement in the clinical and surgical operating capacity of the Oskar Jandl Hospital in San Cristóbal, the Roaming program for Specialist Doctors and Telemedicine services, to guarantee health of the population of the Galapagos Islands, including visitors and tourists, when they require medical attention for various types of emergencies.
