Decrease in Perceived Health Found in Recent Health Monitor Survey of Lansingerland Residents

Lansingerland, Netherlands – The most recent Health Monitor for Adults and the Elderly survey, conducted by municipal health services, has revealed some concerning trends in the health and well-being of residents in Lansingerland. The survey, which takes place every four years, aimed to investigate the possible consequences of the corona pandemic. A total of 716 adults in Lansingerland participated in the survey.

One notable finding is the decrease in perceived health among both adults and the elderly in Lansingerland. While residents in Lansingerland still report more positive health outcomes compared to the national average, it is apparent that both age groups are becoming less positive about their health compared to 2020. In particular, individuals facing financial hardships indicated a deterioration in their overall health.

Furthermore, the survey found that eight percent of adults in Lansingerland, who were infected with the corona virus more than three months ago, continue to experience physical and psychological complaints related to their infection.

In terms of weight management, half of adults up to the age of 65 in Lansingerland were found to be overweight. However, the proportion of obese residents in this age group is lower in Lansingerland compared to the regional average (13% versus 18%). The trend continues among individuals over the age of 65, with a lower obesity rate compared to both the region and the national average (12% versus 19% and 17%, respectively).

When it comes to physical activity, adults in Lansingerland, especially those up to the age of 65, engage in exercise more frequently than the regional and national averages. The over-65 age group also surpasses the exercise standard more often than their regional and national peers, and they participate in sports more frequently compared to other residents in the region.

On the topic of alcohol consumption and smoking, more residents in Lansingerland adhere to the recommended guidelines for alcohol than their regional counterparts (40% versus 47%). Additionally, the percentage of smokers in Lansingerland is lower compared to the national average for both adults and the elderly (12% and 6% versus 19% and 9%, respectively). Adult residents also smoke less frequently compared to the regional average (18%).

Mental health outcomes in Lansingerland are better than both the regional and national averages. Approximately one in six residents experiences mild to severe psychological complaints, which is lower than the regional and national averages. Additionally, the prevalence of anxiety disorders or depression among individuals over the age of 65 is lower in Lansingerland compared to the regional and national averages.

Resilience among adults in Lansingerland is also higher than the regional and national averages. About half of adults have high resilience, contributing to better mental well-being compared to their counterparts.

Loneliness among adults in Lansingerland is less common compared to the regional and national averages. The survey revealed a decrease in emotional loneliness among residents in Lansingerland, while the region experienced an increase.

Informal carers in Lansingerland, particularly those over the age of 65, face heavier burdens compared to the national average. Although the share of informal carers in Lansingerland is lower, the level of burden experienced by these individuals is higher.

In terms of financial well-being, Lansingerland residents have a lower proportion of individuals struggling to make ends meet compared to the regional and national averages. However, among adults aged 18 to 64, the survey found an increase in the percentage of individuals facing financial difficulties, rising from 7% in 2020 to 14% in 2022.
