Unlimited travel with a monthly package? A project that could become a reality by next summer. Like Germany, Clément Beaune told France Info that he was trying to offer “clearer, more attractive offers”. The Minister also said he wanted to “work with the regions before next summer so that we have a French-style pass that is simple, attractive, inexpensive for young people”.

In addition to the German inspiration, Clément Beaune also praised the “considerable” work of certain regions such as Occitania and the Grand Est: “when they make offers at 1 euro, they make considerable financial efforts to help young people and c is very good like that”.

Economic and environmental issues

The proposals under study would make it possible to reduce the price of trains, perceived as too high by the French, especially in summer: “We have the feeling that it is expensive for peak periods and for TGVs and it is true” . According to the politician, the fall in train prices is the result of two elements: the increase in the number of trains in circulation – TGV M and the arrival of old TGVs – and competition with Trenitalia and then the Spanish group Renfe. This drop “will be seen at the end of 2024”, he promised at the end of the morning.

In addition to the economic stakes of the offer, the train is at the heart of the energy transition strategy. The SNCF group announced in July 2022 that it was setting a zero direct carbon emission target by 2050. Since the beginning of last year, hybrid TERs have been put into circulation in certain regions of France, in particular in the Centre-Val- de-Loire and New Aquitaine.
