Lieberman vs. Gantz: Clash Over Legislation and Talks

In a heated exchange on Twitter, Avigdor Lieberman, the chairman of Israel Beitenu, fired back at Benny Gantz, the chairman of the state camp, after Gantz called on Prime Minister Netanyahu to stop the legislation and return to talks at the president’s residence. Lieberman responded with a sharp message, writing, “Khals for calls on Pike.”

Lieberman continued his attack on Gantz, criticizing his call for fake conversations and urging the opposition to take a clear stance against the government’s Messianic Halacha policies and predatory legislation that could lead to oppressive regimes. Lieberman argued that it is not responsible to support the same measures as the government and that there is a need to establish a constitution that separates religion and state. He called for a joint forum of opposition parties to formulate the constitution in anticipation of the next elections.

Merav Michaeli, the chairman of the Labor Party, also criticized Gantz’s remarks, saying, “Enough of cooperation with Netanyahu.” She warned against repeating past mistakes and legitimizing laws that resemble a coup d’état.

Michaeli further called on opposition leaders, such as Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz, to stop following Netanyahu and avoid falling into the same trap. She emphasized the importance of a determined and powerful protest to stop the coup d’état.

Earlier, Benny Gantz released a statement addressing the developments surrounding the protest and legal legislation. Gantz urged the Prime Minister to halt unilateral legislation and resume talks. He accused Netanyahu of choosing petty politics over the well-being of the Israeli people.

The Likud party also responded to Gantz’s comments, criticizing his failure to respond to coalition leaders’ calls for an agreement. The party accused Gantz of succumbing to the pressure of protest leaders and abandoning negotiations at the President’s residence. The Likud argued that Gantz is a prisoner of the protest, emphasizing his inability or unwillingness to reach any agreements and claiming that his sole purpose is to waste more time.

The clash between Lieberman, Gantz, and other political figures highlights the divisions and tensions surrounding the ongoing legislation and calls for talks. As the debate continues, the future of Israel’s political landscape remains uncertain.
