The Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya has repeatedly commented on social networks about the departure of the head of the Wagner mercenaries Yevgeny Prigozhin to Belarus. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, whom she calls a puppet of Putin, is trying to turn Belarus into a haven for criminals. Now that the weakness and fragility of Putin’s criminal regime has been exposed, it is high time for Europe to react. “I call on the European heads of state and government to act decisively in support of democratic Belarus.” Svetlana Tichanovskaya left it open how the EU should act in concrete terms.

Bringing the war criminal Prigozhin to Belarus would make the country even more unstable, according to Tichanovskaya. “Belarus doesn’t need more criminals and scoundrels, it needs justice, freedom and security for its people.”

According to Tichanovskaya, one should not be fooled by the Belarusian dictator’s attempt to present himself as a mediator between criminals. “Lukashenko, Putin and Prigozhin all have to answer for their crimes. No one will be safe as long as they remain at large and spread terror to sate their personal thirst for power.”

According to the Belarusian President, in secret negotiations he persuaded Prigozhin to give up the advance of the Wagner groups towards Moscow.
