In 2005, two teenagers, Zyed and Bouna, died in an electrical transformer in Clichy-sous-Bois while trying to flee the police. Their death provoked urban revolts: three weeks of violence between young people from sensitive neighborhoods and the police, and the establishment of a state of emergency in the country. Subsequently, policies were put in place and laws were passed to prevent such a situation from happening again.
