Light aircraft crashes in Kimbulapitiya – here is the reason!

The cause of the accident of the light aircraft that crashed in Kattana Kimbulapitiya has been revealed.

The plane, carrying a C-172 type 4R-GAF registration number manufactured by Cessna, crashed while carrying tourists on the 27th.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the pilot was attempting to land the plane at Katunayake International Airport due to a sudden malfunction while traveling from Sigiriya Airport to Kokkala Airport, the Civil Aviation Authority said.

Four people, including the pilot, were on board the plane at the time of the crash, two of them Lebanese nationals.

Both have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

From the moment the accident was reported, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said it was examining the evidence and technical data to determine if there was a technical glitch or something else as aviation inspectors began their investigation.
