SAO PAULO (Reuters) – The savings account registered net deposits in June and ended five consecutive months of withdrawals, according to Central Bank data released on Friday.

The financial application most sought after by Brazilians registered a net inflow of 2.595 billion reais last month, after a net withdrawal of 11.747 billion reais in May.

In June last year, there were net withdrawals of 3.755 billion reais.

Last month, deposits exceeded withdrawals in the Brazilian Savings and Loan System (SBPE) by 2.421 billion reais. In rural savings, net deposits were 174.166 million reais.

The movement of withdrawals seen in the first five months of the year took place amid a scenario of high interest rates, which reduces the competitiveness of savings compared to other investments.
