A year of celebrations for the 90s of Radio Mambí

“Together for a better radio” is the slogan that convenes in Santiago de Cuba for the day for the 90th anniversary of the municipal radio station CMKW Radio Mambí, in the context of the activities for the 60th anniversary of the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC). ).

The foregoing was announced in the act for the 89th birthday of that territorial station that has been the protagonist of the main events in the city and whose scope has transcended the borders of the main municipality.

Until the celebration of its nine decades in 2024, different activities will take place, such as the Great Contest 90 years together for a better radio; the delivery of the Cañón de Cuero distinction, to personalities and institutions with a significant contribution to culture; of the Ramón Capote prize for the work of life. Likewise, actions will be intensified with the station’s retirees and dissemination actions in the media, both analog and digital, said Gertrudis Boizán Barrientos, director of CMKW.

At the meeting, the Provincial Directorate of Radio recognized Radio Mambí and recalled the most important moments in its history.

With their performance, amateur artists linked to the work of this radio medium reaffirmed their permanent link with the communities. A sound message was also received from the president of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power Yaneydis Hechavarria Batista.

Officialized on July 3, 1934, at the time CMKW joined the Cadena Oriental de Radio and after settling in various locations, in 1970 it began its transmissions from the building located on Calle 8 between A and Independencia, in the Sueño neighborhood of Santiago from Cuba. That same year, its workers, gathered in an assembly, proposed naming it Radio Mambí.

Personalities such as Antonio Pera, Guido García Inclán, Aramis Del Real, Enrique Bonne, René de la Cruz, Franco Guevara, Salvador Wood, Yolanda Pujols, Pacho Alonso, Miguel de Gonzalo and Félix B. Caignet have passed before the microphones of this station.

Broadcasting on 93.7 MHz on FM and 1280 KHz on AM, from 6 in the morning until 1 in the morning, Radio Mambí has ​​been the voice of the main events held in the city, since its periodic transmissions of the sessions from the local government body, to international events such as the Caribbean Festival. Its presence also reaches the digital medium and at the moment it is committed to the use of new technologies despite the economic situation.

In addition to the organizations of the territory, institutions and state agencies will join the celebrations for the 90th anniversary of Radio Mambí. Also, new actors in the economy as part of their management change project to continue being the voice of all Santiago from the Hero City of the Republic of Cuba.

Present at the event were the Labor Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Lázaro Expósito Canto, the Provincial Director of Radio Yunior Estrella, representatives of organizations and institutions of the municipality, factors of the community where the communication medium is located and listeners of the station.
