“I will shout to the whole world that my brother has the right to exist”. In a video posted on his Instagram account, Assa Traoré called for a rally on Place de la République in Paris on Saturday at 3 p.m., a few minutes after the court canceled the planned march in Beaumont-sur-Oise (Val -d’Oise), in memory of his brother Adama.

La France Insoumise has announced that it is joining this call. “The government refuses the peaceful demonstration in Beaumont-sur-Oise. To demand justice for Adama and all victims of police violence, we join this call, ”said Mathilde Panot, president of the LFI group in the National Assembly, on Twitter this Friday evening.

Initially planned for Beaumont-sur-Oise and Persan (Val-d’Oise), the march in tribute to Adama Traoré was initially canceled by the prefecture, which feared excesses in a tense social context after the death of Nahel in Nanterre.

Assa Traoré then seized the administrative court in the hope of annulling this decision. But the latter was confirmed Friday evening by the courts, which considered that the prefect’s decree did not constitute an attack on fundamental freedoms.

In the process, Assa Traoré therefore announced a new meeting place. “I, Assa Traoré, sister of Adama Traoré, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday on the Place de la République in Paris, and I will shout to the whole world that our dead have the right to exist, that my brother has the right to ‘exist,’ she says in the video posted to her social media.

In June 2020, a rally against racism and police violence, launched by the Vérité Pour Adama committee, also took place on the Place de la République. 15,000 people had gone there, according to police figures.

A few incidents had taken place, notably on the roof of one of the buildings surrounding the square, where activists from Génération Identitaire had unfurled a banner “justice for the victims of anti-white racism”. At the end of the demonstration, some clashes had broken out, and 39 people had been arrested.
