Armed Suspect in Worcester Custody After Shooting Family Members and Firing at Police During Standoff

Worcester, Mass. – A 21-year-old armed suspect is in police custody after allegedly shooting two family members and engaging in a 13-hour standoff with officers. The incident took place on Friday in Worcester.

According to Lt. Sean Murtha, authorities were called to a residence on Colby Avenue before 9 a.m. When officers arrived, they discovered that a 21-year-old man had shot two of his relatives, a man, and a woman. The victims managed to escape and were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

When officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, he opened fire on them before retreating back inside the house. Fortunately, none of the responding officers were injured in the exchange.

Hostage negotiators and a mental health clinician were brought to the scene as authorities worked to establish contact with the suspect. The Worcester reverse 911 system was employed to notify residents in the vicinity, and the area was cordoned off to the public.

After a lengthy standoff, the suspect was eventually forced out of the house by a police K9. Officers swiftly apprehended the shooter shortly before 9:45 p.m, bringing the incident to an end.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, with authorities working to determine the motive behind the shootings and the relationship between the suspect and his victims.
