Here are some of the experiences of the 6,000 people who took part in the 2022 Festival du Monde. The ninth edition of the event will take place from September 15 to 17 and we have done everything possible to enrich this event. You can already book for the debates, shows, trails and paying workshops, registrations for the other formats (free) opening at the beginning of September.
Discuss the news
Returning together to the major current topics that have marked the past few months, this is what the editorial staff of the Monde through nine major debates that will see journalists and their guests interact with festival-goers. The news has not been idle, we will talk about the war in Ukraine (“Living in Ukraine in time of war”), the mobilization against the pension reform (“Has France become ungovernable?”), new technologies (“Should we be afraid of artificial intelligence?”), geopolitics (“How far will China go?”) and the climate emergency, with a return to the series “Adaptation “, in the course of publication.

Inaugurated three years ago, the new headquarters of the Monde, designed by the Snohetta agency, has established itself as the architectural signature that marks the entrance to the Paris Left Bank district. Its visit is also offered to you as part of the Heritage Days. In small groups, guided by journalists from the house or by a representative of the management, you will stop in several emblematic places of daily life: the offices, the room of the editorial conference, the terrace… The opportunity, also, to rediscover the history of the newspaper founded almost eighty years ago by Hubert Beuve-Méry, whose office and some objects have been preserved.

Communicate with the editorial staff
During these three days of festival, it’s all the editorial staff who will be on deck: themed meetings with each of the editorial departments are offered to festival-goers. The opportunity to discuss with the journalists of the historical services of the Monde (politics, society, international, economy, culture, etc.), but also with those of more recent creations (“Le Monde Afrique”, video, “Les Décodeurs”, The world in English, “Le Monde Campus”, etc.) or those which are less known to the general public but just as necessary for the production of a general information media (editing, correction, computer graphics, photography).

Following the success of the past two years, the workshop “When festival-goers make the front page of Monde » will be proposed on Saturday morning and will conclude with an exchange with the team which will have ensured the edition of the day. And festival-goers will be able to follow a live broadcast from the sports department, devoted to the Rugby World Cup match between New Zealand and Namibia.

Berenice, interpreted in the language of Racine and in literary Arabic, will question the relationship with others and the place of Arabic – the second most spoken language in France – in culture and education. Finally, we will offer you a reading of extracts from letters from Sasha and Olga, a diary of two Ukrainian sisters published by “M le magazine du Monde”. Each of these shows will be preceded by an exchange with the directors on stage and editorial journalists.
Celebrating the cultures of the world on the forecourt
Dancing… but also meeting the editorial staff, eating, vibrating to sounds from around the world. Heart of the festival, the forecourt of our building welcomes you in a scenography designed by studio 5.5, whose remarkable work of circular design will also be part of the course of Paris Design Week this year. The batucada Badaue, the gospel songs of Archange, the Afro-Caribbean sounds of Difé Kako, the trendy choreographies of the K-pop Dance Academy, the body-to-body of Laura Bachman and Marion Barbeau, or even a tribute to Astor Piazzolla of the Octetology Orchestra. Before closing the festival with a tricolor tradition, the popular ball, to the sounds of the crazy Petit Orchester parisien.
From Friday, a food court will also make the taste buds travel, from Lebanon to Italy via Asia and Bordeaux. For this world tour, Argentina and Thailand, whose tourist offices are partners of the festival, will be particularly honored, between initiation to tango and tasting of Thai specialties. A cultural and gastronomic program with free access.
Explore the 13th arrondissement
The world and the 13th, it’s been going on for twenty years! The journalists of “Goût du Monde” invite you to accompany them on thematic routes that will end in front of the newspaper’s headquarters: a bike ride on the trail of the borough’s cool islands, a gourmet stroll led by our journalist gourmet Léo Pajon, a walk along the Seine and even an incursion into a neighboring district, to discover the secrets of the Jardin des Plantes.
