Opposition legislators announce that they will not support the approval of credits in the Plurinational Legislative Assembly (ALP) until the Executive “makes transparent the resources managed by the Covid-19 emergency”, since there is no real information on the costs vaccine and others.

The deputy for the Citizen Community (CC) Enrique Urquidi explained that there are a series of doubts in the loan contracts contracted by the Government in the name of the coronavirus pandemic, even more so when an explanation is demanded about the destination of the same and not they are granted.

The legislator argued that his group has supported the approval of some money loan projects that were directed and focused on the road and productive structure, “but, for some time now, all the contracts that have been arriving are loans as in the case of Covid-19 to replenish expenses for 500 million dollars, then, as CC we have said ‘we are not going to approve’ and in reality we are no longer going to continue approving any loan contract as long as the Government does not change its attitude, as long as the Government does not public accounts transparent”, said Urquidi.

Confidential

Last Wednesday, the Senate approved two credits for a total of 545 million dollars.

The first loan was for 45 million dollars from the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) for the construction of bridges.

The second loan of 500 million dollars was requested from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to support populations affected by Covid-19.

“The CC bench demanded from the Minister of Economy, who was present, Minister Marcelo Montenegro, that first, before coming to ask us for money, he come to account: what have those 500 million dollars been spent on and what exactly is what they want to replace”, questioned the deputy Urquidi.

According to the deputy, the Minister of Economy spoke of the hunger bonus and other types of measures, but when asked about the price of the vaccines and their origin, he replied that there are confidential clauses, ”he questioned.

In this context, he reiterated that CC will not support the approval of any other loan project, because the accounts are not transparent.

More than $us 4,000 MM were approved

Deputy Enrique Urquidi (CC) reported that in the last two and a half years, during the administration of Luis Arce, around 30 loan contract bills reached the Legislative Assembly and that Bolivia is currently in debt for more than 4,000 millions of dollars.

“We are not going to continue giving them, we are not going to continue giving more fat to the pig, so that the money goes to totally obscure projects and practically goes into the pockets of many government officials,” he questioned.
