Every year the Banco Sabadell Foundation grants awards with which it recognizes the work of young promises in certain professional sectors. The latest edition took place last Tuesday at the bank’s headquarters in Sant Cugat del Vallès, and was chaired by Josep Oliu, president of Banco Sabadell.
The 18th Banco Sabadell Foundation Award for Biomedical Research was awarded at the event, which went to Manuel Valiente, doctor in neurosciences and leader of the Brain Metastasis Group of the National Cancer Research Center (CNIO), and the 7th Banco Sabadell Foundation Award for Sciences and Engineering, which was awarded to Juan Miguel Morales, doctor in industrial engineering and leader of the Optimization and Analytics for Sustainable Energy Systems (OASYS) group at the University of Malaga.
The Biomedical Research Award seeks to recognize the excellence of young people with an important career in the field of biomedical research and health sciences, and who stand out in their specialty for their capacity for innovation. In his words after receiving the award, Manuel Valiente declared that “this recognition confirms that the initial risk of betting on a laboratory dedicated to brain metastasis, a terminal state and without expectations years ago, is proving to be a field with many opportunities for improvement.” “.
For his part, Juan Miguel Morales highlighted that “receiving this award represents years of effort, dedication and passion for scientific research”. The Science and Engineering Award, organized in collaboration with the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) , recognizes the trajectory of young researchers who stand out in fields such as mathematics, chemistry, physics or engineering.
