Gunman on Scooter Goes on Shooting Spree in New York City, Killing One and Injuring Three

In a shocking incident, a gunmen riding a scooter opened fire in multiple neighborhoods across New York City, resulting in the death of one man and injuries to three others. The suspect, a male, was apprehended by police in Queens, and authorities have recovered a 9mm handgun with an extended clip.

The shooting spree began at Ashford Street and Arlington Avenue in Cypress Hills around 11 a.m. A 21-year-old man was walking when he was shot in the shoulder. He was rushed to Brookdale Hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

According to NYPD Assistant Chief Joseph Kenny, video evidence shows a male Hispanic approaching the victim from behind on a scooter and firing one shot. The suspect then went on to commit more acts of violence.

Around 11:30 a.m., an 86-year-old man was walking on Jamaica Avenue near 108th Street when he was shot multiple times in the back. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead after being transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.

The suspect continued his rampage and fired shots at a group of people standing on the corner of 108th Street and Jamaica Avenue. Luckily, none of them were hit by the bullets.

At 11:35 a.m., a 44-year-old man was shot in the face at 126th Street and Hillside Avenue on the Kew Gardens-Richmond Hill border. He was left in critical condition with a bullet lodged in his cheek.

Minutes later, the suspect shot a 63-year-old man in the shoulder at 134th Street and Jamaica Avenue. The victim was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Thanks to the NYPD’s domain awareness system, an alert with the suspect’s description was sent to all police officers in the city. Two officers recognized the suspect and successfully apprehended him on the corner of Sutphin Boulevard and 94th Avenue in Queens.

The suspect is identified as a 25-year-old male with at least one prior arrest in the city. The motive behind his rampage remains unclear. NYPD officials have stated that the footage obtained thus far shows him randomly shooting at his victims without any discernible pattern.

Mayor Eric Adams has been briefed on the incident and plans to meet with the families of the injured victims. The city is reeling from this violent episode, and authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the shooting spree.
