“Viscerally attached to the independence of our title, we cannot bring ourselves to see the JDD transforming itself into an opinion journal in the service of an extremist ideology”, assure the authors of this letter, who regret the lack of support from the government.

“Since the beginning of our action, many personalities and organizations have publicly shown their support. But with the exception of a few rare positions taken by ministers, discretion has prevailed on the side of the executive, which thus seems to endorse this new blow to the independence of the media”, can we also read in this letter.

In conclusion, the strikers are calling on the President of the Republic to take a public position on the subject and to change the legal framework, “an essential condition for objective and quality information”.

A few days before the appointment of Geoffroy Lejeune as head of the editorial staff of the JDD, the Lagardère group, to which the Sunday Journal belongs, had been absorbed by Vivendi, whose owner is Vincent Bolloré.

Thus, many observers see in the appointment of Geoffroy Lejeune, a journalist marked on the far right, the hand of Vincent Bolloré, with opinions reputed to be ultra-conservative.
