‚APPROXIMATELY 50 THOUSAND AFGHANS HAVE RESIDENCE PERMIT’
Ramin noted that in the first category, around 50 thousand regular immigrants with residence permits came, they were in the waiting process and did not have a work permit.
‚130 THOUSAND PEOPLE UNDER TEMPORARY PROTECTION STATUS’
Ramin said that Afghans, who are under international protection status in the second category, came, that this status was given to them temporarily and they could wait for a long time, and that the number of these people was around 130,000.
‚ THERE WERE 100-150 THOUSANDS OF REFUGEES ENTERING ILLEGAL WAYS, THE NUMBER DECREASED’
Stating that there are generally between 100-150 thousand asylum seekers coming through illegal means, but now this number has decreased to 50-60 thousand, Ramin stated that a total of 70,000 people who came illegally in 2022 were sent back. In response to the question of how he could be so sure of these figures, since illegal immigration was mentioned, Ramin noted that these are the official figures of the Immigration Administration. Ramin said that they are in close contact with the Afghan communities and they get the numbers by talking to them.

In the meantime, Ramin also stated that the number of Afghan-origin voters who voted in the last elections was around 60-65 thousand, but that these people were not those who came recently, only about 4 thousand of them acquired citizenship in the last few years or by investment, most of them have been living for decades. He noted that there are citizens living in Turkey since the 1980s.

Ramin also stated that some of the Afghan families had to migrate for the education of girls who are not allowed to go to school in Afghanistan at the moment, adding that time is needed for the situation in the country to improve. When asked whether Turkey’s efforts against the Taliban for girls and women were sufficient, the Afghan Ambassador said that “Ankara follows a balanced and pragmatic policy and it is not possible for some things in the country to change quickly”.
‚WE RECOMMENDED A PERMANENT MECHANISM FOR THE SHEEPERS, THE GOVERNMENT WAITED FOR THE ELECTION’
Ambassador Ramin said that Afghans are employed especially in agriculture and livestock sectors in Turkey because it is very difficult to find shepherds, and that they propose to establish a permanent mechanism between the two countries in these sectors, so that those who want to come for shepherding can also come registered and illegal immigration will decrease as there will be supervision. Ramin also stated that the government is waiting for the election to respond to this proposal.
TALIBAN’S CALL TO TURKEY REMEMBERED
