Students Showcase Science Research at Linde College’s Science Market

Thursday was an exciting day for students from classes 3, 4, and 5 vwo at Linde College in Wolvega as they held a Science market to present their research conducted during their chemistry and biology lessons. Parents and carers were invited to visit the market and witness the impressive work of their children.

The research projects displayed at the Science market were diverse and covered a wide range of topics. Students from vwo 3 were tasked with devising a scientific study, which resulted in a plethora of unique and interesting ideas. Meanwhile, vwo 4 students were commissioned to examine a problem from the past decades, such as the causes and consequences of particulate matter, PFAS, and plastic. Lastly, vwo 5 students curated an exhibition called ‘Treasure your risk,’ where they investigated the potential risks of specific substances when ingested.

According to Teacher Else Henneke, the school believes in the importance of bridging the gap between theory and practice, especially in subjects like biology and chemistry. Projects like these allow students to understand how theoretical knowledge can be applied in everyday life.

Visitors to the Science market were not only treated to fascinating presentations but also had the opportunity to vote for the best ones. A winner was chosen from each grade. In class 3, Rosalynn and Esther emerged victorious with their presentation in the form of a book featuring a story by Miffy. The story centered around the HPV virus and vaccination. Class 4 winners, Tycho, Anton, Esmée, and Ingmar, delved into the topic of PFAS. Finally, Vera and Seles were awarded the prize in year 5 for their research on the use of methyl bromide in transport containers and its consequences for human health.

Additionally, a room was transformed into a Science Café during the event, offering coffee, tea, and a variety of delectable goodies for all visitors. The proceeds from the sales will benefit Kika, a charitable organization.

The Science market not only showcased the incredible research capabilities of Linde College students but also highlighted the school’s commitment to practical learning and fostering a love for scientific exploration.]
