Authorities Release Names of Parents Involved in Tragic Shooting Incident in Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM, AL – In a devastating incident that unfolded on Saturday night, a young child lost its life due to gunshot wounds in east Birmingham. Authorities have now released the names of the parents involved in this tragedy.
Police have identified the parents as Alajah Fairfax, 20, and Corey Denard Louis Jr., 19. According to Officer Truman Fitzgerald, Louis shot and killed Fairfax, classifying her death as a homicide. While the cause of Louis’ death remains unclassified, investigators suspect that his gunshot wound may have been self-inflicted.
The Birmingham East Precinct officers were notified shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday about a person shot in the 6800 block of 66th Street South. Upon reaching the scene, they found Louis unresponsive, and he was immediately rushed to UAB Hospital.
Following the incident, the police issued a lookout bulletin for a vehicle believed to contain the possible shooter. Soon after, officers received another report of a gunshot victim at Woodlawn High School. Arriving at the school, they discovered the same vehicle linked to the initial shooting.
Upon approaching the vehicle, officers found Fairfax inside, also unresponsive from a gunshot wound. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, another woman who was driving the vehicle had also sustained gunshot wounds but is now recovering in the hospital.
While the police were investigating both scenes, they received the news that Louis had succumbed to his injuries at UAB.
Officer Fitzgerald revealed that the deceased man and woman shared a child and that a domestic dispute between them had taken place at the 66th Street location. He further explained that Louis had fired shots at Fairfax and her friend, prompting the women to flee the scene and seek help at Woodlawn High School.
This heartbreaking incident has left the community in shock and mourning. Authorities are continuing their investigation to gather more information about the sequence of events that led to this tragic outcome.
