Gymnastic photos could soon look very different…

The Swiss Gymnastics Federation (STV) prohibits photographers from taking suggestive photos! In the future, it should be ensured that gymnasts are no longer photographed in figures where the focus could be on the step.

The association writes in its new guideline: “To protect gymnasts, the STV strives to ensure that no suggestive or otherwise ethically sensitive photos are published and passed on. Especially photos where gymnasts were photographed in the crotch.”

And further: “The STV is aware that such photos can arise in action photography. However, publication should be avoided. The main concern of the STV is to sensitize the media professionals and to let common sense prevail.”

The STV leaflet lists exactly which photos are permitted and which are not. Photos that show legs spread upwards are “no way”. With the splits, on the other hand, “it depends on the shooting angle”.

STV employee Naomi Kempter explains to the German Press Agency: “We wanted to send a signal that we no longer want such photos. It was high time for something like this.”

First in Switzerland, then soon in Germany? Quite possible!

The German Gymnastics Federation can imagine something similar. “We have now slightly adjusted the positions for the photographers at competitions. On the uneven bars, for example, we avoid a position in front of the device in order to avoid spreading situations directly in front of the camera,” explained a spokesman. If the association discovers sensitive photos in the press or on websites, it also speaks directly to the photographer.

Gymnast Sarah Voss (23) has repeatedly criticized the fact that she has to do gymnastics in tight suits. With Elisabeth Seitz (29) and Kim Bui (34) she set an example at the EM 2021 when they competed in long-legged suits.
